LB SMILES

 LB SMILES

The LB Smiles program, operated by the Loup Basin Public Health Department (LBPHD), is a preventive oral health initiative serving preschools and elementary schools across a nine-county region in central Nebraska. Its primary goal is to reduce oral disease and enhance dental health among young children in the community. It's important to note that the LB Smiles program is designed to complement, not replace, regular dental visits. It provides an additional layer of preventive care to support children's oral health.

LBPHD uses licensed dental hygienists to perform oral screenings and apply fluoride varnish treatments to children's teeth. If a child requires further dental care, the program provides referrals to appropriate dental services. Each school year, the program serves over 2,000 students, emphasizing its significant impact on community health.

The program is available to all children in the LBPHD service area, regardless of insurance status. While Medicaid covers the service, a suggested donation of $15 is appreciated to support the program's sustainability. Importantly, no child is turned away due to inability to pay.

The LB Smiles program should NOT replace your child's regular dental visits.
